A negotiable instrument in which the issuer unconditionally promises to pay a specified sum to the named payee at a specified maturity.
All termsA promissory note (bono) is a Turkish negotiable instrument containing the issuer's unconditional promise to pay a specified sum at a specified maturity to the payee named on the note or to their order.
It is widely used in commercial life to secure deferred payments. The holder may transfer the note to third parties by endorsement. If unpaid at maturity, the note can be enforced through the special attachment procedure reserved for negotiable instruments, which gives the creditor significant procedural advantages over ordinary debt collection.
Validity depends on the presence of all mandatory elements listed in the Commercial Code. The absence of the word bono, of the unconditional promise or of the issuer's signature deprives the document of its status as a negotiable instrument. Signing a blank note is a risky practice that creates serious evidentiary problems.
Çek ile karıştırılmamalıdır: çek bir ödeme aracıdır ve bankaya hitaben düzenlenir, bono ise vadeli bir ödeme taahhüdüdür.
